CLK 2003 Kompressor
Hi All,

Brand new to this forum and looking for help to work out if my 2003 CLK 200 W209 Kompressor has Isofix bolts in the chassis - no Isofix markings on the back seats, but CLK manual mentions Isofix as a safety feature. If there are no visible brackets between the seat base and seat back, where do I look for bolts in the chassis to fix the brackets to? Can the Isofix brackets be retrofitted and if yes, is this a DIY job?

Thanks in advance.

ISOfix are fitted to the actual seat & not the chassis like seat belt anchor points are. Sorry, but can't help with whether you car should have ISO fix but the tabs are normally quite obvious when they are fitted

I looked into this a while back (but didn’t bother in the end). Basically you can get metal brackets which bolt to pre made holes in the chassis beneath the seat. Easy job. Some dealers won’t sell you the part for some reason but they’re probably on eBay.

IIRC W203 bracket same part as used for W209.

Car manuals mention many things, optional extras included- which probably includes isofix.
depending on the model they are part of the seat or the anchors are bolted to the body under the rear sofa.

not as straight forward as an anchor and a bolt as these items need to hold a lot of potential force in the hopefully unlikely event of an accident.

never known it possible for the body anchors to be possibly retrofitted.

The ISOfix just holds the child seat steady in the car's seat. In the event of an accident, it's the seat belt that takes the strain. As above, the ISOfix fit to the seat & not the car.
This is a Smart, but I'd imagine other's are similar ... https://www.evilution.co.uk/mod/451-baby-seat-isofix.htm?highlight=451 isofix

2005 CL500.
Isofix are/were not standard in 2004. My car does not have them...but could have had. If this is a car you're looking at...you'll have to look to see if it has them.

The mounting holes are pre-drilled at factory presumably for when it was an optional extra. My car has them. The brackets simply fit to those. It would be an OE install rather than an aftermarket attempt.
