Hi,

Speaking as someone who has crashed their car as a result of having dogs loose inside, I would personnally recommend a dog transport box/cage etc.

This will keep the dog safe whilst travelling and not distract you, also when you park up etc if your dog is the leap out as soon as you arrive sort(train it not to do that) then you can lift the tail gate and it's still inside it's cage.

Here's a link to the sort of thing(I don't work for them).

Get yourself along to a Gamefair or Gundog trial event to see what I mean.

Good luck,

Hi Stuart,

We had a similar problem in trying to restrain our dog in the back of our estate. Fortunately ours doesn't try to get through the net, more a case of she jumps out the car before we can stop her and consequently has caught the paintwork a few times.

What we find works for us is that we now leave a fairly short lead attached to one of the metal hooks on the floor of the back and we keep her tied to that. It means she can't get through the net, even if she tried, nor can she jump out of the back of the car as soon as the tailgate is opened. We bought a rubber mat from B&Q and we keep that in the boot and hang it over the paintwork so that when we release the lead there is no risk of scratching anything.

However I do think the idea of having a crate is very good too. The only problem I can see with one of them is what do you do with it when you aren't taking the dog with you, as I guess they do take up a lot of space.

You can buy a liner that fits the back of the C Class Estate, they even sell special 'boot tubs', here is the link for them
