We all know that the steering on a C class (and others) is vague at best, however over the past few weeks I have noticed that the car has developed a distinct pull to the right when driving along and the vagueness has become more pronounced.
The pull is noticeable at all speeds, and at motorway speeds on a straight stretch the steering wheel has to be turned to the left to keep the car on the straight and narrow. Even turning the wheel to the left to force it to drift into the lefthand lane will, over a short distance turn into a drift into the righthand lane scenario. It never used to do this!
I have had the wheels checked and balanced, the tyre pressures checked and then alignment done (all by the same shop that also does tyres / alignment for the local MB dealer).
My theory is as follows : One road that I use to get to work has a very poor surface and in one spot there are a raised set of ironworks which mean that the right hand wheels (front and back) both hit the 'lump' in the road at speeds of 40mph or so. I have been hitting this lump for the past year. Before anyone suggests it, no I cant avoid the lump (unless I want to hit other cars) and yes I do try to go slower...
Is it possible for something to have been bent / misaligned or the shocks on the right to have suffered?
