re; mayonnaise in coolant system
took thermostat out + coolant pressurises so much it blows a good litre of water out (past the the 140 deg C filler cap) into the expansion tank + out onto the road.
So my worst fears are confirmed then; there's no way it should pressurise _that_ much, especially when the engine isn't at normal operating temperature unless the head gasket has gone.
I can see myself being lightened by the best part of a grand any time soon.
