Hi,

The doors on my W202 Estate must be a perfectly snug fit against the car body. After rain the door drains only empty when I open a door. Anyone else experienced this ?

I have the same issue with just one of my rear doors on the same car (W202 estate). I've looked at the seal surrounding the door as I thought that the water may be getting in that way, but its a nice tight fit. I don't know how the water gets in there but it seems daft that it can't get out until the door is opened. That's when it drains onto my foot

The only way the water can get in is through the seal at the bottom of the glass, it would appear that the channels need moving over a touch

Hello Malcom

I've got the same problem too. Can you expand a bit on "the channels need moving over a touch" as I'm not sure that I can visualise what you mean.

Thank you

David

Door Drain problems....

I bought my W202 240 Sport last week and have got quite major corrosion at the bottom of both rear doors due (by deduction) to this same problem....
I am considering getting this professionally done but am wondering if anyonme else has attempted to do this themselves & have been succesfull....?
I have tried to upload some pics to show but not been able to (bad omen, I wonder?!)
I had exactly the same problem when opening the rear doors the other day after heavy rain, opened them & looked at water sitting on the door sill - Immeadiately I reliased thats why the corrosion has occured - blocked/mis aligned water drains.
Please do come back to me..;)

There are holes so the the water can escape, it can only get in via the seal along the glass.

One can hold the rust at bay by spraying waxoil into the door after removing the door liner and removing all of the crud in the bottom of the door

The door sills may well be outside the door seal, and therefore technically they are on the outside of the car. There is always moisture there on mine after washing, which I wipe dry as part of the car cleaning process.

It would be good to confirm that water is not lurking in the doors, but don't get too depressed until you have checked.

Door Drain problems & corrosion.

Many Thanks to everyone that replied, really appreciate your experience.
Now I have checked as mush as I can, at this time, and both rear doors do have corrosion on the bottom/underside of both doors:(
Now I have posted elsewhere a new thread on the same thing with phots of the current problem. So I will put the phots on here (hope thats okay Mods!?) aswell.
One question to all - on the underside of the doors are "weather seals". Where can I buy these? Moreover what are they exactly called?
Reason for asking is that I would like to replace them after I have repaired the corrosion.... Please do get back to me.

That is awful on a 98 car these days, the under sides must be very bad under the rubber seal

Yes they are! But the odd thing is, the side that looks worse, on investigation, is better than the other one.... Hope that makes sense!
I am waiting for the weather to sort itself out so I can get it sorted asap.
The corner patch of rust is merely surface at this time but I have Jenolite, Grey primer, Brilliant Silver paint & touch up pens all ready for the off! After a quote of £800 to get it professionally done, I am going to sort it myself.....;)

Still wanting more info on the seals on the bottom/underside of the doors....
