After starting instead of normal "clunk" from passenger door I get a machine gun noise instead. Also when turning off and opening drivers door.
Mercedes wants £250 +vat which an OAP cannot afford.
So advice please-what is wrong -what parts do I need and advice on how to fix. I am ok on most tasks
Thank you

you need a door lock, we as an independant would charge around 150 ish part and labour, i think the locks are around £80 ish, not too bad to change but im experienced on them, depends if you have correct tools etc(brain included:D) if you buy one and need fitting advice let me know,

and with regards the oap part, dont give us that, you are driving a few thousand pound car at least,,,sell it if you cant maintain it, you sound like my grandad george ha, ;);)

but on a serious note, mercedes are not mk2 fiestas, there are a lot of electrical, and electronic parts on the cars which can and do go wrong, when buying a car you should budget maintenance costs in to the whole owner experience,

as stated if you need advice for fitting let me know, thanks mb tech

Can I suggest you do a search under 'bouncing button'. There are quite a few posts on there and the advice seems to be that your car has an electric locking system (not vacuum), and you need a new lock, exactly as mbtech above. This seems to be a common problem across several models including my CLK.

If it is the bouncing button problem then on my car the following fix worked.

1 Unlock the car
2 unscrew the locking button, it just unscrews upwards
3 slide some polythene tubing over the operating rod and slide it down as far as it will go. About 6 inches 6mm tubing is about correct
4 Squirt wd40 down the tubing and let it soak in
5 Work the lock a few times whilst the tubing is in place
6 unlock the car, slide off the tubing, replace the button

Warning Do not move the operating rod up and down whilst the button is off and there is no tubing over the rod or it may jam and require the door covering /trim to be removed.

This works if the problem is a sticky grommet inside the door where the rod passes into the lock area.

It worked on my car and is still working after 22 months.
