The door mirror has been knocked backwards, and the front surround sprung away from the main body. The 2 parts have not gone back correctly and slightly overlap.
I need to open up a gap of 1inch and then bring the 2 parts together.
I cannot understand how it is assembled.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

On most of these mirrors you need to take the glass out, normally held with a long spring wire along the top, by pushing the glass in a the bottom it will reveal this wire, unhook it and you can lift the glass out. there are 4 screws the hold the two halves of the casing together. by undoing the screws you can click it back into place

Thanks for the prompt reply. Your detailed instructions give me enough confidence to have a go at tackling the job. I will wait until I have time not to rush the work.
Very much appreciated.

You may feel happier if you take the mirror off the car to work on it.

Prise off the triangle cover on the inside of the car from the top.
unplug the electrics, remove the three scews(hold the mirror) and its off
