I have asked a few people this question, no one has come up with an answer. Why can there be more than one switch operated by the doors opening? My '87 250TD has two, one switches on the interior light, the other operates a relay somewhere, whether or not the 'ignition' is on. I have seen a 420SE with three switches. Any ideas?

Why not press each one in turn and see what happens,or more than one together.

I beleive one was for the electric windows. At one time, you could operate the windows with either the key in or the driver's door open. They seem to have done away with this on later models. Not sure waht the 3rd would be for though.

I have tried seeing what happens, one operates the lights, the other a relay. The windows are activated by the light switch. Oh well, maybe I'll find out one day. Thanks for the advice though!

ah, but

my sunroof won't work w/o the key in the ignition.
and there are a couple of plunger switches at 90 degrees to the direction of travel on the rear door frames, at about belly-button height, on our 300TE. Any ideas?

Electric seats can be adjusted without the key in if a door is open.

Merc seats

have their switches on the door panel, by the opening handle. Recaros have them on a console at the side of the seat.
