Still trying to get my head round the various features on my newly acquired W209, when I noticed a weird effect on the driver's side mirror. It has double vision and a strange dark tint, like I am getting cross eyed. Regardless of weather it is light or dark. Very distracting. The interior mirror develops a green tint at night which is OK. Is all this part of the self dimming feature? is it possible to re-set this or cancel it altogether?

Good morning and welcome…. not a problem I have had. Perhaps the mirror is damaged.. think the self dimming just works or doesn’t, with no option to turn on or off.

The electrolyte in the dimming mirror is dead/leaked.
Change of mirror glass is the only way. If its heated and auto dimming don't expect any change for over 200 notes.
A 5 min job to change.

You can of course get a stick on mirror glass. Doubt you will ever happy with that.

.....
..... and some I believe
A while back I bought a mirror from MB & the parts lads said they were more like £300 .... hence people tended to replace with a 'normal' glass. ;)

Heated (non dimming) complete with backing plate on E-bay for £18. I think it's a no brainer.

Indeed - i paid circa 270 a month back for one in my W220. Price of 200 was a conservative "be prepared".
