It's not an excuse, every single person is in different situation and you make decisions based on the financial situation you're in. I was in situation where, I could not afford a new DPF therefore I went for a cheaper option and that's that..
You chose deliberately to remove the DPF, rather than seek advice on how to stop it blocking up. That is what I mean.

I get the financial issues, I’ve run ABC- equipped cars! We all have those. But I’ve never chosen to deliberately pollute more because it serves my wallet.

First of all I asked for advice and help. Second of all I did not deliberately remove it. I knew fitting a new DPF would be an expensive job. Therefore I had no other choice.. due to financial issues.. 3 weeks before that I replaced all the engine mounts as well as gearbox mount, brakes and 2 front springs.. sorry I have to explain myself

Here's a short video of the noise I'm getting under acceleration. Perhaps this would be more helpful rather me trying to explain it.

Definitely sounds like a boost leak.
I'd guess there's loads of black smoke at the same time.

As I thought.
The ECU is measuring the air coming in, calculating the fuel required and injecting it, but there's not as much air in the cylinder as it's measuring so it produces black smoke. That means the air is escaping => Boost leak.
That's the whooshing noise you're hearing.

Incidentally:

Brand new....

Not sure it fits yours though.
Probably less than the remap.
They’ll be for the previous 320 646 rather than the 350 646, so while will probably be okay for a while I would bet it will clog eventually

Oops - my bad. His is an E250 not ML320. Confusing the threads.

Being in a finacial situation led you down a path where a shitty garage took advantage of your money and done something which I am sure as hell they knew was illegal.

Sorry about your situation, we live and learn, sometimes by getting burned.

Your car is not roadworthy. If you cant afford to rectify (get dpf refitted and coded) Then maybe consider selling the car as is - highlighting its need for a DPF, get some cash and go for something more managaeble.

From experience - cutting corners always bites you back.

Even cheaper (if it's the right one)

Looks about right, I’ve not got access to wiz at the moment though to check part numbers but I’d be pretty sure that would fit

What's the cost of labour and code though? Also because I'm doing a lot of short journeys wouldn't it block again?

At a guess about three/four hours labour. It shouldn’t block even if your doing short journeys as long as everything else is working correctly and occasionally you do a longer run to get things up to temperature and complete a regen itself

I do a lot of short runs in my S212 nowadays so I always make sure that when a DPF regeneration starts I run the car until it’s completed probably takes 15 mins (10miles) to do this but it keeps the engine healthy and this only happens every 300 miles or so not a big deal

I'd say less than that. Maybe one of the Indies can comment? @alexanderfoti

@Dav1992

You've taken a fair bit of flak here - guys, I think he gets the message....

The car no longer suits your needs and usage, so I would suggest that you should consider trading it in, disclosing the need for a new DPF, citing the cost from the eBay add (which a garage could potentially get cheaper and fit cheaper than you) and buy a replacement, petrol or hybrid one car.
They may 'only' make a few hundred quid reduction, and when you put that in the context of a trade in, thats not a huge amount

Else
1. Your financial woes will continue as I expect MPG will suffer as the car over fuels as the air mix is incorrect
2. Personal woes (you're obviously not happy with the James Bond esq smoke screen, noise and other unknown mechanical repercussions)
3. Someone, potentially Plod, may pull you up and over if the smoke screen is that bad (you will get that unlucky one day, you know it!)
4. An MOT tester may uncover this and fail it leaving you with an unplanned bill / undrivable car.

You could NOT disclose it on trade in or sale to WBAC etc, but from above, you could get caught out on that AND I don't know how well that would sit with you anyway.

Good luck

As you say, you live and learn.
Its not like anyone on here hasn't ever made the odd expensive or inexpensive mistake / uninformed decision on cars or anything else.....

You may have unfairly gone off the brand, but the MB petrol's are pretty good still

It's also illegal.
It's against the law to sell an unroadworthy vehicle without declaring it. That was the major piece in my arsenal when I was sold my R Class where the DPF had been gutted.

Revs normally increase and you can get a smell / fumes from under the car
