Sprinter 310 (W903) 1998 2.9L
Hi. I have an old (W903) Sprinter Camper van with a 2.9L engine. Lovely vehicle and has run like a dream for 5 years all over Europe and UK, with the only cost being a new starter motor.
Driving happily along the road recently, and the EDC lamp illuminated. No change in engine revs or note, and continued happily. Decided to get it checked at favourite garage, and although the warning had turned off before I arrived, they found: P1223 Y23/31 (something) (Fuel Rack Position Sensor) Y23/31 (again) (Slide Valve Sensor). They suggested I take it to a specialist for investigation. I drove away and within one mile it came back on again. This time with a couple of misfires, a little surging and the settled down and drove normally.
Took it to the specialist who told me that the injector would need replacing (the one with the needle valve), but also the diesel pump would need to be removed and checked and if necessary replaced! I asked if they could just try the injector first, but they told me that both jobs would need to be done at the same time. So, Injector cost and fit, and then 500p labour to remove pump and check, plus another 300p to replace if needed!
I can see no references linking the 2 parts on the internet, so I thought I'd ask the specialists here!!!
What to do? Any ideas, suggestions, recommendations gratefully received.
Thanks
