Hello everyone
Ive read all the posts on dripping hard tops on 500 SL R129's, you know, the drip on the front seats thing, and have decided to leave the soft top on, until I source a new complete hard top seal.
However, NOW... I have soaking wet rear footwells as well :(
And Im guessing slightly wet front seats is preferable to soaking wet carpets and all the damage that will cause.
I know what causes the leak with the hardf top, but can anyone give me a clue as to why the soft top seems to leak in such a place as to make the rear footwells soaking wet ???
Any help would be gratefully received.
Many thanks

Best bet is to put up the top and with the aid of a watering can check around the window seals and the back window panel.

I had similar problem on the drivers side. My problem was simply caused by the plastic clip that holds the carpet on the bulkhead behind the seat being broken. You can see this if you stop the hood mechanism to allow access to this area. This allowed water to run in behind the bulkhead carpet without actually wetting it and drained down to the floor carpet.I simply replaced the clip and added some silicone sealer and have had no problems since. Hope yours is as simple.

this is brilliant guys, thank you. ive been a bit distracted with a gearbox problem, which is now resolved, but thank you so much for your help.
while i was with the specialist, i spoke to him about this, and he has experience when he was with MB, of fitting these new seals to the roof, it was a recognised warranty issue apparantly. He thinks that my probs with hard and soift tops are one in the same, ie new seal required.....£326 plus vat. When ive recovered fromn my gearbox issues (£) this is what I shall do.
This has in no way put me of these cars, Its just a run of bad luck i guess ? But once i get new seal, i know my car will be tip top !
Thanks guys, cheers
