Ring round the MB dealers or look at genuine parts on eBay (again MB dealers) if they have them on the shelf they are usually more amenable to offering a discount.
They are everyday brakes for average driving. Unless you presson on a regular basis they are fine. Customers don't bring them back with complaints. If you need to save a little with no compromise in performance then choose Apec.
There was a time when you could get reliable, as good as if not better then a original for less. This has become harder in modern times with so many good fakes. Also cars are heavier now and probably more sensitive to premium/original parts in some cases.
Several years ago my partner told me to try a local business to do my brakes rather than DIY on one of my Volvo C70 T5. At the time I used to run ate or brembo discs from ecp with either matching pads or Ferodo DS2500 pads without issue. The other place assured me they would get ate or brembo. It came back, and I knew something isn’t right. I was then told to give them a bit of time which I knew would not fix the issue. Cut a long story short, performance was below that of what I would expect, add the addition of slight judder, more heat being given off. A week later the other place admitted they fitted APEC…. Off they went, a few choice words by me were given, I think I put a set of pagid discs and pads on in desperation within a couple of hours to have a car that is sublime again.
Even the brembo discs and pads I fitted to the cls from ecp I’m questioning the authenticity of them as I think they are fakes.
As a result I went with original mb for the w221 and will probably do the same for the cls next time.
MB only for me, too critical a component to look at other options. DSK I also had a Volvo C70 though not a T5. A lovely lovely car but exceptionally heavy and underpowered for the weight. The roof in operation was a work of art to behold.
