Hey all, I'm having a problem with the lock on my '95 E320. On the drivers door, when I put the key in, it won't go in all the way and won't turn. The only way I can lock the car is to either lock it from the passanger side or trunk, or push down the lock. The only way to unlock it is through the trunk, which is kind of embarrassing at times. When locked, the drivers door lock does go down all the way so the door still opens, but the alarm goes off. Is there any way to rebuild/take apart the lock to see what is going on in there. I thought about keyless entry but that will get expensive. Thanks in advance for any help.

easy does it

Get some loc-lube or WD 40 or duck oil or similar light spray oil, squirt some in to the lock opening and then some onto the key, put it in and work it about gently. If you feel some improvement, repeat, if not , it hasn't really cost you much. The oil might just loosen it up enough for things to work. Give it a chance though, at least 10 mins of gentle probing before you give up.

Sounds like the catching plate at the back of the barrel, needs adjustment. If you want details on the removal, I can post it here.

If the barrel is the problem and you want to swap them around, it is only a 20 minute job.

Follow up....

Thanks for the advice, I tried lubing up the lock and that didnt work, so I switched the barrels (passanger and drivers door) There are two problems, one of them is the fact that since the locks are switched, they are mirrored and when I unlock the drivers door, the alarm arms itself, so when the door is opened the alarmn goes off. (kind of funny, actually, but annoying) The other thing is the still exsistant problem of the drivers door appearing to lock (the pin goes down and all) but I can open the door right up after it is locked, so essentially anyone could walk-up to the car (locked or unlocked) and open the drivers door. Any help would be appreciated!!
