Guys,
I needed a new drivers door mirror for my 1991 190e, picked one up from Euro Car Parts today at a reasonable price of £56 + VAT.
Only problem is, it doesn't fit. Looks OK at first, but when the glass is adusted about right, the adjusting handle is touching the edge of the dashboard.
On further inspection, the quality of the whole thing is well down on the genuine Merc mirror. It's in a box labelled " Macht Electrikal"

I'll be taking it back.

Anyone else come across this problem ?

Am not familiar with your car, however I don’t think you actually have a problem, its just the way you are adjusting the mirror.

When the mirror glass is adjusted about right, hold the edges of the mirror glass, with one hand, so as it can’t move, and then move the adjusting handle with the other hand, away from the edge of the dashboard, you should hear a clicking sound as you move the handle. It takes a little fine-tuning to get it to your liking.

Alternatively you can do it the opposite way, moves the adjusting handle away from the dashboard, hold it so as it can’t move with one hand while you move the edges of the mirror glass with the other hand, until it is about right, again you will hear a clicking sound.

Thanks Dec but there's no movement at all - hold the glass & the adjusting lever does not move, and vice-versa.
I've spent ages looking at this mirror including popping off the glass & I just can't see what's wrong with it.

Sorry that diden't work, I made the suggestion because that is what I could do on the manually operated mirrors on a Renault that I used to own and I can do the same thing on my present C180 event though the mirrors are electrically operated.

Is there any chance that you bought a mirror for an electrically operated system, you could make a comparison with the passenger side if you took that side off. There would be little difference between the two mirrors except for the curve in the glass on the passenger side. Do you still have the old glass for comparison?

As I said, I am not familiar with your car, others with 190e may come forward to advise you better.
