Is that an entire prop shaft replacement.. or can the U/J be refurbed / replaced?

Are you sure its not the rubber donuts?

(Also sometimes called Rotoflex couplings).

Oh I don't know lol. I was just reading up on the symptom of clunk when in reverse and braking..

But after some reading and thought.. it makes sense that it could be loose brake pads - considering it happens when braking in reverse.

I guess if it was the U/J then it might happen when I select reverse then move off..

Stick it in neutral and roll backwards down a hill. Brake and if it clunk's its not your driveshaft

Can also be the parking brake mechanism moving as it goes from forward to backward.

Hows the condition of the rubber gaitors on the on the drive shafts, if they are split could be an indicator due to dirt ingress and or corrosion. For suspension related parts need to get the wheel off the ground and start investingating, sounds like a do nut to me, but needs investigating to pin point.

MB prop shafts are rather expensive considering what they do and how much they cost on other brands of car, you can go third party of course. You will only see if the stub is replaceable by investigateing the specific shaft and seeing if the stub is availabale seperately from 3rd party manufacturers.

Good luck and keep us informed.
