Hi All, during a routine scan on my 2010 W212 , the following codes showed.:- UO42908, but all I can find is what is hereunder:
U0429 - Generic ( but no mention of the remaining digit's 08)
Type Network - Network Data - ISO/SAE Controlled
Description
Invalid Data Received From Steering Column Control Module

All info that I can find on this code seems to relate to bad electrical connection, where would be the best place to look? And any other info would be welcome.

The 2nd code was 90B387, but try as I might, I cannot find anything on this one. Any ideas, anyone?
The car is driving fine, no dash light's or other warnings of any description.

Yes you are right LK, we have discussed 90B387, I'd forgotten that as I could not find in the list of DTC codes I have when I was checking this particular scan. And neither could I find anything on the U042908 code ( aside from " Unreasonable data were received from the steering column module. There is a signal fault, or the message is faulty " This is the one that concerns me now,so any help / advice would be appreciated.

First step would be spray connectors to the steering module with a decent contact cleaner.

Will do LK, where is the module located? is it behind the airbag in the centre of the steering wheel? Pardon my ignorance, but I've never had anything to do with one of them before??

Are you getting any other symptoms or is it just a stored message?

No, not that I'm aware of anyway. I clear it and it returns. If I did not scan it regularly, I would be blissfully unaware of it...:geek:

There is sometimes an argument for "if it's not broke don't fix it...."

Does the error come back immediately or after a while? Given you have no other issues my first instinct is to leave it.

I'll do another scan, clear it , drive it and check it again to see if if immediately returns or not. Given the way its driving,,,I'd be thinking the same myself LK....leave it. Let sleeping dogs lie. Where exactly is the module located? And if it were faulty, what way would it affect the driving?

After recent scan ( this morning no less !!! ) Three historic faults showed up:
(1) U 010300. Electric selector lever module has a malfunction. ( I think that this may have something to what was for me a first time event, namely, when changing up between 2nd and 3rd the revs briefly "flared" up and held before changing. Only other thing that I have noticed longtime is that it has to hit 100 KPH before changing to 7th gear, so it spends most of its life in 5th or 6th, given the type of roads where I live. And this is of course reflected in the fuel consumption.
(2) U103888. Historic, CAN Communications malfunction, BUS off.
(3) 530309 NO CAN Data.
Any info on any of the above will be appreciated.
Jim.

They are Historic, means not current or pending.

Well, yesterday as I was driving, while changing from 2nd to 3rd it flared, and held the high revs a little bit longer than normal. First time it has happened with me anyway, so I was wondering if it had anything to do with the fault codes? I will be taking her out on a rare long motorway trip tomorrow, so I'll re check when I get back home and see if the codes have returned or not. Plus I've updated my iCarsoft CR Pro. Should be interesting results, as I'll have fuel consumption figures too.
