Hi All,

I recently bought a 94 E200 Automatic. It creaks when going over speed bumps, especially from the back. I think it might be to do with the suspension, does anyone have any ideas if it needs expensive repairing?

Also can anyone tell me of a good garage to get it serviced, I think MB dealers might be too expensive, is there any good independent MB specialists in Ireland?

Rorys Mercedes are in Dublin somewhere by the M50. Sadly the website is dead, you may need to do a bit of asking around unles the phone book lists them.

rorys

I bought a 300CE in Dublin recently and gave it to Rory to get similar creaking sorted out. He replaced some suspension parts at a cost of 520 Euro - all fine I'm sure as they were most likely worn anyway. But the creaking came back which leads me to believe that he may have greased them up as part of the service.

There is another guy - Anthony Caning on Poplar road (near Fairview). I have heard good things about him but never used him yet.

I would recommend ISA Autos in Blackrock on Brookfield Terrace, off Carysfort Avenue ... (01) 288 3914

I've used them for a few years for any stuff I can't/won't/don't want to do myself. I've always found them to be very good and very well priced. (I know a good few people who use them too)

It isn't a 'Mercedes specialist garage' although a lot of their business is on MBs. Also, I've sampled the delights of a couple of so called 'Mercedes Specialist' garages in Co. Dublin and, not wanting to mention any names, I'd say 'proceed with caution'!

Go on! Name names so the rest of us can avoid them. Its only your "fair comment" after all.

Well lets just say that I used one 'specialist' place not that far off the N11 in my early days of Mercedes ownership and found that their prices seemed to be higher than MB dealers!

After collecting my car from another such place in the north County Dublin area I traced an unusual sound and vibration to the fact that the front O/S wheel nuts had been undone and not retightened ... not even finger tight! I noticed this just before joining the M50!

Still everyone makes mistakes and one person's bad experience shouldn't necessarily condemn a place. My general message is that I believe that places claiming to be Mercedes Specialists (in Dublin anyway) are not necessarily all they seem, and possibly playing to the perception that if you own a MB it requires special and complex maintenance... Not the case for my 15yr old 190E anyhow!

There is of course the highly specialised Wheel Alignment issue, although Alo Kavanagh (MB Dealers) in Sandyford don't even do this and simply pack you off to Advance Pitstop... Although I secretly believe that if you don't want to buy a new S Class they don't want you wearing out their (lovely new) carpets!

(BTW Advance Pitstop in Monkstown Farm recently did my wheel Alignment - properly. Not sure if all branches can do MB though.)

They leave wheelnuts slack in dublin and do wheel alignment on a farm what next It all sounds a bit irish to me. Better staying with a donkey and cart.Things are getting too advanced i think. Next you will be saying you have roads over there.

Would have recomended Rorys Mercedes as mike did but had a bad experience ordering so called NEW parts for my 560SEC, so beware when(if) ordering parts, call in to collect to ensure what you are getting is what you paid for.

Mike

Overseas parts

Lads,

I have to get a few jobs done on my 1990 300CE. The mechanic I am using is sound (spent 3 hours yesterday diagnosing a fault and didn't charge me kind of sound) and he knows his stuff. So basically I trust the guy.

Problem is that the jobs I need done will require expensive parts - either 2 ABS sensors at ?190 each or an ABS motor at approx. ?700.

I could also do with a new ignition key barrel (approx 190) and a distributor cap (about 200).

First things first is the ABS as brakes are kinda important.

Question is this - do you know of any good web sites or overseas suppliers that can send in parts reliably (based on part number supplied) for a fraction of the cost?

I know they are out there. Anywhere is cheaper then Ireland for most things....

Any ideas or preferably experience would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Paul
