Hi

Ive got a W140 S500 that never misses a beat engine wise. Ive just filled up with fuel and within 3 mls i had a marked reduction in power. Following a couple of hours standing the car started ok but kept cutting out on idle and being very jerky whilst running, acceleration was poor. No warning lights came on.

Is this a dose of duff fuel (needing to drain £90's worth out) or more likely a mechanical / electrical fault.

Weather - slight drizzle but recently drove in torrential rain with no problem. However passenger window left open for a while in the rain immediately before.

Any help appreciated as its a hell of a lot of cans of fuel to get out!!!

Hi

Drained 50% of the fuel and filled back up, added a can of octaine booster for good measure and its running better, no way near perfect but about 50% better (which would at least make mathematical sense - LOL).

Ill try get the codes read anyway - and thanks for the advice!!

Check with the garage that they have not had a crossover where the tanker driver drops the incorrect product into the wrong underground tanks. This used to happen on quite a regular basis but is normally corrected (uplift) before the contaminated product reaches the customer, but not always.

Density check will tell you if you have contaminated fuel. Other way is flash test, mogas (petrol) will flash at ambient diesel, or mixed fuel, at higher temp. Your local distribution terminal will have all the equipment required to carry out these tests, give them a ring they may help.
