If yiour car didn't come with the service book, but you were offered a duplicate where it gets stamped again. This happenned to me when I got my W211 and I chased the dealer, and he mentioned this duplicate book (where duplicate was written accross it). Will this affect my the value/marketability of my car.

When buying I asked sight of the service book, he said he didn't have it, but he called up what was done on the computer with the car.

I had the same - my book has 'duplicate' holes punched throughout spelling the word. The service history is then a dealer print-out of everything that was done stapled into the new book.

When I bought my used car from a Merc dealer in London, it had FMBSH but they couldn't find the service book and said they would post it on to me. However they were hopelessly inefficient and in the end I got them to send me a blank one which I got stamped myself at the original supplying dealer. (I checked with the original owner who admitted being unable to find the book when trading in his car so it was all kosher I think.) I guess all services at MB dealers are on the computer so so long as it carries the dealer stamps it should be OK.

I don't think it will affect its resale value unless the buyer has specific reservations about it.

MB buyers will know they can take the car to a dealer and have the history checked anyway. In fact, you could have that done to satisfy them it all above board.

Now if it is a shed when you come to sell it, that might affect its value.

I trust the dealler well enough, previously it was owned by Merc as a dealer principles car down in Solihul. It ended up on Glasgow for some reason...

I know the car is kosher, its just that come trade in time, it won't have its original book. I have noticed it will need serviced every 10k miles , thats rather alot.

Yes it is.

I would expect it to last a bit longer than that, although It may depend on its use.

The first R171 I had wanted a service at 11000mile when new, but it made it to 13500 when it was offloaded, and still had 1500miles to go.

The Next one wanted service at 9000miles when new, and was suggesting 11500 at 9000when I got shut of it.

Mind you, that one spent 6 weeks of its 12months with me in the dealers anyway.

Why should it affect its value come sale time?

Its still got a comprehensive Merc print-out and its actually more detailed, not just a rubber stamp. The book is clearly marked as duplicate and from Merc' itself.

I had no qualms about it and don't expect it to be an issue when I sell it

Thanks for that, I got worried as I read elsewhere that someone said they "weren't worth the paper they were printed on". There seems more logic to this thread. I suppose I got the car for 5 years so it won't be worth that much come sale/px time.
