Hi and welcome. What exactly were the circumstances of the purchase? Missing service books should set alarm bells ringing. Sometimes it can be genuine, fleet car etc, etc. I've known dealers to lose service books too. But more often than not it is to hide the cars past. The red flag for me would be the 'low mileage' as you put it.

However, you could try and put a call in with MBUK giving them your chassis number and see what comes up. But if it was serviced at an indie then it is all but untraceable.

car was bought as a non runner due to MAF fault and multiple codes (at least 15) and a bad N/S cat. transmission wouldn't shift, BAS ESP light was on, the list goes on.
more than enough faults to scare off the average owner.
its been off the road for around 2 years.
replaced the cat (6 hours) and the airflow sensor, got it tracked and its driving like new with no codes.
i'll try MBUK tomorrow.

Often the info can only be given by the dealer who did the work or service

Just as a parallel search try the DVLA website. On there you can look up a cars MOT history if you have the V5 reference number (which you will have as you own the car) and this can give you a wealth of history regarding its MOT history and everything that goes with that; failure/pass history, MILEAGE, etc. I've used it on a few car purchases and it often gives you a warm feeling the seller was telling the truth (obviously you only usually get the history after you've bought it so may decide "uh-oh" and punt it on....)

the car wasn't on the computerised database, the car was last MOT'd in 2005 and broke down in '06 before the next MOT was due.

Without sounding like the prophet of doom, you are a braver person than I. Have you called the previous owners of the car to try and verify the mileage etc?
