One sunny day my command no longer could read the navi dvd disc. It would not even start up and show any maps. Radio and CD player worked fine.

Took the car to MB and had it checked out. Turned out to be a voltage problem (at least that what the computer were telling us).

Once dealer had a replacement part, it turned out NOT to be a voltage problem, but rather the whole unit needing replacing. Which they did, under warranty.

Since then, the "new" command system is much quicker that the old one and combined with the latest version of the Maps (which I bought dirt cheap in Germany) is really is working like a charm.

Anybody else had problems with their command system?

My Command problem is that it does not go to sleep, I am in the middle of putting in a timer that shuts it down in ½ hour after stop, as it only cost me £14 thats cheaper than changing it

Nice car BTW. They pull like a train don't they.

Yes, it does. Great engine, great car. What I like the best is the fact that all those "beep" Bmw drivers can no longer keep up...

But I also like the design very much and feel it is a much understated car with some hidden secrets.

So if I understand this correctly, you switch off the engine and it still stays on?

Dealer tried that one. Seems to be the most common thing that happens.

Yes they are made to go to sleep after about ½ hour, but mine never turned completely off, the CD changer would go on clicking around all night, no sound or display.

Anyway timer now in and it behaves the way it should.:cool:

Do you mind me asking how much the DVD was and where you bought it? PM me if you prefer...

No probs. I paid €220 so approx £150 (price should be plus German VAT 16% but company paid so no VAT!).

Compare that to the £224 plus VAT (£263.20) MB UK wanted! Normal UK rip-off.

Might be going down to Brussels for a couple of days. Seriously considering sourcing it over there. After all, the maps all cover EUROPE and are multi-lingual.

The new ones support TMC traffic monitoring don't they?

The new disc I bought have a few more countries on it as well as more coverage of TMC, including the UK! Tried it over a 1000 miles last week and it does work even here.... although, sometimes it would tell me qeues or slowdown and there would be nothing once I got there. Strange. Perhaps the system will become better with time.

It did, however, once had to recalculate the route due to current traffic. So that worked.

The main difference for more info where in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia etc which now includes street level mapping (last one only had major roads in towns & cities).

Very strangly though is the fact that my own street does not appear, despite living at this address for over 3 years. Ok, it was newbuild, but still...
