dvd not playing

hi all,as some of you know ive fitted a comand system to my 52plate e series,and all is well,well almost.the comand head unit doesnt play dvd's,it does play the sound but there is no picture,instead i get the message "to prevent driver distraction etc etc,the problem is that i can take the key out of the ignition,and it still displays this,so i borrowed a friends comand unit and fitted that and his worked perfectly so its my unit whats at fault,ive tried to get into the engineering menu to check which box is ticked with regards to dvd playback ( we did this on my friends ) by pressing the usual mute,phone down,serv,buttons but nothing happens,yet it works on my friends.the unit was manufactored on the 38th week 2005,does the model have a different code ?

I think that I am correct in saying that the Command 2 does not play DVD, it was around mid 2004 when the wide screen units came out, and they play DVD

The COMAND units that play DVD movies are restricted to the E class (W211) and above. ie it doesnt work on A, B or C class cars. The W211 E class can be made to play DVD movies but it requires coding at the dealership. The engineering menu is only available on early units or those not updated with the later code. You can try an early navigation disk which should roll back the firmware. This may allow you to get into engineering mode. It does on the C class units anyway.

The first W211's that came out with DVD based comand APS units were 02 and 52 plated cars.

thanks alfie,i thought it might need codeing but i was hopeing for a cheaper option ,also thanks to malc for not fully reading or understanding the post,i know its late
