My DVD player in the command centre now says "no DVD" when there is a perfect, correct format DVD inserted.

I have a feeling MB will be far too expensive for me. :(

Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix or replace this?

Are you reffering to a home made or normal DVD.

I've tried both and also an original audio cd which hsould play no problem but still get the "no DVD" message so I think its hardware or at least firmware

Just to let you peeps know I took it to MB, I'm 4 weeks out of warrenty and they want £2,400 plus VAT plus labour, total estimate to repair my DVD player = £3,300 !!! (is this the same DVD player you can buy from ebuyer for less than £20?
REALLY need a cheaper way- please

Precisely the reason I didn't buy one with Command fitted. More trouble than they are worth IMO.

Anyway, baiscally, get the part number so you're sure you are looking at the right thing and yes, you can get a replacement off ebay for a more sensible amount. There are also firms that repair the dvd players in them I believe.

Normally in these things it is the pick up that goes down, when it reads, no disc. cost of pick up around £15-£45 plus fitting

Thanks guys.
I had asked MB @ Gatwick if just the DVD player could be fixed. They obviously can’t do it in house so just gave me some old rubbish about the DVD player being built by Mercedes and not accessible or repairable at all, they claimed it had to be a full Command replacement or nothing!

Do you have any suggestions as to where I might find some one to look at the pickup for me? I’m in Sussex but would be happy to travel a reasonable distance.

I would think the actual DVD drive would be the same as you can buy on eBuyer for £20 but that the firmware would be specific to MB. But there's nothing to stop you trying a generic drive in there if you can dismantle the unit

But you might be better off going to one of the Comand specialists out there and asking them

There are service agents around for these things, the laser itself is easy to fit, but without access to the service menu, the tracking gain, offset and focus cannot be set.

I'm probably not looking with the right search term but I cant find a service agent, do you have a couple of names or a search term that throws up the results I need?

I seem to get the idea that this is fixable for relativly little expense but cant get to the final bit of who will do it and for how much
