Hi Guys

Am in a bit of a panic here, was meant to out my brother's cherished plate (which was on retention) onto his new car for him as he is working abroad and easier for me to do it. I have been away in Singapore for last 10 days on holiday and got back yesterday to realise the retention certificate expired on thr 16th and has not been renewed. Does this mean he has lost it or is there any grace period etc?

It says in the blurb that they don't have to extend once the period has expired but I can't see why they wouldn't, unless it was a really expensive one they could rip off, er, I mean resell for the benfit of the communities tax paying public......

I think a grovelling, apologising letter explaining out the country, etc. with a cheque to cover the retention renewal period enclosed (even if they don't ask, do it to show good faith) should be enough to restore the right.

i went down to local DVLA office yesterday morning at 9am to find that it was closed for a holiday monday! Grrrrr
Called Swansea and the girl was nice and although did not say as much (probably a recorded call), she suggested going down to local office this morning and "being v polite". So that is what I will do.

It is not a overly fancy plate but he has the set e.g K6 K7 K8, so would be a shame to lose the K7
