Hi good people,

I am driving a E200 estate on an N plate and have a problem, the speakers for the sound system (radio) do not seem to work on the drivers side. Now this means that with certain classic stereo tracks I am only getting half the song. I have bought a song book to learn the words but would prefer to replace the speakers. How do I get into the ones on the Dash without wrecking the car, yours in song

Speaker Removal

Hi Confused,

This response is based on the assumption that N plate translates into a W124 series.

Following is a link to perform just that. Though it mainly applies to the saloon version, it should help you with the dash speakers.

http://www.mercedesshop.com/w124_stereo_removal.htm

If you do a search in this forum & others, you will find ample discussion on the subject matter. Only thing to be aware of is that W124 speakers are non-standard size, approx 120mm and fit in using clips.

Cheers,

pongee

A W124 is the older E-Class that had been out since the eighties with the square headlights, and stopped production on a M/N reg(I think)
A W210 is the E-Class thats just gone out of production and started on a N reg with the 2 round headlights either side.

Go to the dealer, you may be surprised  When i wanted to upgrade my sound system, i was enquiring what upgrades the dealer could offer.
He said the current front door speakers in my C-Class only cost £12 each :?
So I imagine yours will be similar

 Gosh, I will try the dealer, but recent experience has not been good, to fit a piece costing 2.45 cost 2 hours at £80 per hour.

Thank you AleTank may your Bitter get Better

I meant try the dealer for parts only(speaker) . I've found parts for Mercedes to be quite reasonable, but its the Labour charges that mount up/cost alot.
Always worth checking though

But for parts - Go the Dealers

replacement speakers

I found great aftermarket drop in speakers for all MB that I use at my shop all the time. It's made in Germany from Rainbow Audio Components. They make a Line that is tailored to fit each MB model. The most popular one I replace is the W124 Dash.

I did a quick google search and found this info on them.
