Loss of power usually after slowing down. Revs stick at around 2900 but car will not accelerate. Car goes into 'get you home' mode. When engine switched off car resets to normal. Fault does not register. Frequency of fault appears to be every few weeks. Anyone got any ideas, as seems it cannot be resolved/cured. Any help greatly appreciated.

you dont say if you have had it into a dealers for a star check, 2005 car should still be covered, first thing which comes to mind on that 642 engine is inlet port shut of motor, oil drips out the turbo seal and runs stright into the wiring plug for the shut off, 2nd thing which comes to mind is it could be the gear box control unit software, i know since the 7g box come out they have had to update software 3-4 times because of faults like this, need some fault codes!!!!

Thanks for your advice. The dealer says that they've had it on the diagnostic computer many times but there doesn't appear to be any fault registering. They advise me that there are no updates outstanding as at 4 weeks ago. They keep telling me that it's the computer trying to purge the particulate filter ( although I don't have one) or it's the pressure control valve connected to the particulate filter which I dont have) !!! All I know is that I keep breaking down and the dealer seems unable to resolve the problem.

When that happens try changing down thru the box manually(autobox) until the car picks up..normally 2nd then rev out to the 3000rpm,change to third and so on and u should find the car will be driveable until u can get stopped,, the other thing u can do is next time it happens keep the car running until u can get it checked on a star machine and dont let the garage switch ur motor off, the fault will then register..thats if it is possible ..tho the ecu should store all faults ..and try another garage

Thnx. Over the past 15 months I have kept car running and taken it into garage many times and I am always told that the star machine does not show any fault. In 13 years of owning 5 Mercs from new I have only ever had one fault register on the star machine, despite previous major problems!!!!!! I'd like to know if other owners have experience of this loss of power or do I have a 'bad' car.
