I remember reading somewhere on here regarding auto boxes pulling away in second gear instead of first. Ie stuck in W mode instead of S.
My wife has had her 1998 300TD Estate for 4 months now. I have taken to the dealers stating that it's pulling away in second only to be told it isn't and it drives normally for this model. The other day I took her car out and went manually through the gears. The car pulled away without excessive revs (normally needs over 1000) and was extremely quick (Ok quicker than normal ) off the mark.
This has once again led me to the conclusion that the box is in W mode.
Can anyone tell me if this problem is an easy self fix item (ie something stuck and leeds oiling) or is it something that has to go back to the dealer for rectifying?
Also where I start looking.
Thanks in advance for your advice
