Hmm. I think I can just about understand what you're after.
Tappet problem - I've no idea.
Rear spring - estate or saloon? Self levelling suspension or not?
Ball joints are a common problem (all that manouvering to park and power steering) and not difficult for a DIY job to replace, but you may need to get the tracking checked afterwards.
Pollen filters - accessed from the footwell either side, easy to replace.
MPG - depends on how heavy your right foot is, but expect about 35 ish.

Hello

1. If a oil and filter change hasnt cured it then i doubt it will improve over time, looks like an inspection is required under the cam cover. By the way are you sure this noise isnt an injector blow, they can sound like a tappet.

2. The rear springs arn't to difficult to do with a good spring compressor, however this isn't essential as they can be changed without one by jacking the lower control arm. this is not to easy unless on a ramp etc, so may be get a indie to do it for you.

3. bottom ball joints need to be pressed in and out on a 211 which is a workshop job or bolted if a 210 which can be done yourself

4. If 211 then under the bonnet passenger side at the back, or if 210 then under dasd pannel passenger side.

5. I would expect 35+ and much more on a motorway!!

hope this helps

Springs are best replaced in pairs.
Not that difficult, although beware that they are quite strong and you'll need some hefty spring compressors. Have a search on the forum there's some recommendations regarding replacement same with the ball joints.

Stick to MB parts - they're not that expensive and generally better quality than the pattern parts.

Put up the first 6 digits of your VIN i.e. 210123 - it'll give people a more exact idea of how to help you.

Hi & Welcome,

My W210 320CDI averaged 36.5MPG for 100K miles, although the trip computer could read a lot more than that (see my sig pic)

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Is it a tappet, or something like a poorly spraying injector?
