I would be very grateful if someone could give me guidance as to where the pollen/air con filter is situated for this model and how to change it. Are there two as on the BMW 5 series or just the one?

Also, I have heard that the wiper mechanism needs to be greased otherwise it can seize - could someone tell me how to access this and if there is some special method for taking off the plastic covers.

Thanks:)

Hi David . I think the E class is similar to the C. The internal air filter should be located under the glove box area. You can access it from underneath the glove box. I think that there is only one as with the c. If you can get access to an air compressor you should blow out all the carbon dust from the fan motor whilst the filter is out. I usually wash the filter in a bucket of clean water and add some ordinary washing machine cloth powder. After a good soak and a rinse allow to dry completely and then insert back. Some will frown on this but it works well for me .
Ther are plenty of posts on the wiper mechanism. I have posted some if you want to trace back through mine. However the wiper mechanism has a clip ,about halfway down the plastic clip swings back from the bottom in an upward arc. Swing back and remove it.You will see the sliding wiper rod assembly. Turn wipers on to extend the wiper rod to top of windscreen.Flick off when it reaches top. Use a waterproof grease ,Usually colour coded blue to lubricate the rod. Do not use a normal grease, it will fail quickly after some rain.

If you have full climate control then there are two filters behind the glove box, only accessed by removing the glove box.

Yep and theres a screw hidden on the 'roof' of the glovebox, for which you need a short stubby phillips screwdriver.

Thanks one and all - I haven't got full climate control so it will just be the one filter.

Any ideas where you can get waterproof grease from in the UK, please for lubricating the wiper gear?

TGo to any chnadlers and get lithium grease (the white stuff) I use it for my jet ski trailer which is regularly sunk in sea water - dont get much worse than that. Lithium grease is our preferred gunk.
