E Class Airscarf

Hi all, got this W207 E400 convertible and can't get the airscarf working. I've read lots of other people's threads and posts but they all refer to a fault that the switch lights come on and then go off again. Mine doesn't, the switch lights up (both sides) and stays on, so that would lead me to think the system is working - but no air coming out of the seat.

The heated seats work fine, again both sides, so I'm a bit confused as to how it could be failing if the lights are on.
I've checked all the fuses and they're good, but of note the start/stop isn't functioning which I'm putting down to a poorly battery - charging at 14.7 when running but down to 12.2 at standstill (engine off, all lights off etc) - I've read that battery voltage can affect airscarf but surely if it's getting 14.7 volts when running that should be fine?
I just want to get it going and working properly.

Yeah, they seem to be, although it looks like someone's had a go at some of the wiring under the passenger seat - not liked its been hacked apart but there are some extra connections under there. I'll put a pic on tomorrow when I get back from work.

Yeah, they seem to be, although it looks like someone's had a go at some of the wiring under the passenger seat - not liked its been hacked apart but there are some extra connections under there. I'll put a pic on tomorrow when I get back from work.
If someone’s been in there, then that’s a good place to start

Yeah. I agreee with you. I've ordered a new battery which I'm hoping might help with the diagnosis - the rear battery seems fine at about 12.8 with everything off - if I can get the starr/stop going at least that will prove the electrical system is all at good voltage and functioning correctly - hopefully!!!

I've got some pictures, you can see that something's gone on under the passenger seat - as well as some wiring it looks like the control units aren't attached to the seat base properly. Did it ever work?

Just checking the obvious but on yours it’s a separate button to the heated seat for the air scarf?

Is it an a238 / a237?

Have you tried the voice command on comand to see if that can start it?

Any other things not working?

I can't say if it ever worked or not, I only picked the car up on Monday - it's separate buttons to the heated seats though. It's a 2014 W207 E400.

I can't see what the bullets are doing yet, that's why the seat might have to come out - battery arrived this afternoon so I'll try and fit it Monday on my day off.

That's weird, wonder what they were doing under there ? Somebody has certainly been busy. I had the seats out of my R230 SL several times over the years, trying to fix the seat massage function. I never caused a mess like that.

Were they

a) Trying to fit some aftermarket module thingy that e.g. enables the roof to be raised while the car is moving
b) Looking for the immobiliser while trying to nick the car
c) Removing the seat ? But that doesn't require removal of the modules.
d) Attempting a cack handed seat repair ? Do all the seat motors and buttons work in all directions ?
e) none of the above.

Well apart from the airscarves everything works fine on both seats. The roof operates while moving on these e class convertibles - up to about 30mph I think - so doubtful they'd need to put anything under there.
Like I said I'll see what happens when I put the new battery in and if it still doesn't work the seats are coming out so I can have a good look at what going on under them - can't wait!!!

Perhaps there's been some chafing on the wire and the fix was to use those crimp bullet connectors so that they didn't need to remove the seat. The driver's side appears to show some wiring damage

It was from a dealer but he's not interested - the usual "its a 9 year old car", and "if you don't want it I'll takexit back" BS.

It's got a 2 year warranty on it so I've taken it to my local specialist to have him look at it and decide where to go from there - if it's an easy fix I'll bite the bullet, if not I'll see if the warranty is actually worth the paper its written on. Trouble is these are quite rare, especially with the red roof so I want to keep it.

Ill see how it gets on in the garage and go from there.

Well its been a while but everything's sorted now. It turns out the reason all the wiring under the seat was such a mess is because the seat base was wrong - out of a different car!



So,the garage fitted a new base and motor to the seat and a new loom from the car to the base, but the airscarves still weren't working - so they then found both airscarf motors were burnt out.



Long story short, £4308 later its all good. I've just spoken to the warranty firm and they're paying me back - so it appears it IS worth the paper its written on!!!

Glad you got it fixed, I wonder why someone fitted a different seat base ? Quite a journey, so far.

Yeah a bit of a journey, but hopefully it's all good now!
The only reason I can think that the wiring and seat motor was messed about with is that there was a fault on it before and a previous owner (or worse, someone who was paid to fix it!) had a go at sorting it out. I can understand why they might have done this as the parts were eye-wateringly expensive, but Mercs aren't known for being cheap to fix!!!
