Well, it appears I may well be able to convince the bank manager that we need a 4 seater convertible and as such an E Class Cabrio may be on the cards if she is happy with the room in the back for the kids...

As such, I will be interested in either a 2014 shape or perhaps stretch to a 2018 shape (though I am not certain they are worth the extra and oddly according to Autotrader appear to have worse fuel economy in the new shape?!?! ).. Plus really I don't want to spend more than 20k and this appears to be a challenge.... Could stretch if a 2018 is worth the money of course (my current justification is that it will have the same interior style as my c class which I like)...

Therefore, talk to me..........

Take the management for a drive in one and no doubt she’ll be convinced.

Buy a petrol and enjoy. Just ensure you get airscarf and heated seats

We looked at a 2014 a year or so ago before we got an R Class..... It was ok. Must confess I thought most were diesel.... And part of my "bargaining" is that it will still get 45mpg or so, rather better than either our R Class or TVR (just not as good as the C Class but she feels that is a little too small).... I prefer the interior of the 2018... But yes airscarf and heated seats are a must.

All the difference in the world the current coupe/cabriolet is based on the excellent underpinning of the W213 so a totally superior car to its predecessor and would be my choice in a second

Too many expensive emissions bits on the modern diesel and they don’t like short journeys or not being used.
Unless you’re doing serious miles a petrol is the way to go. You can probably get one for a decent price as not all have woken up to the issues as yet

That's odd, the new 'C' Class (W205) is about 10% better than the W204

Yes exactly my C Class gets a good 50mpg average. I was expecting the new engines to be more fuel efficient (it may be autotrader is wrong).

The newer the motor ,the more complex (expense in running it ) and the more chance of you being a bit of a canary.if yr in a position to change every 2 ,3, yr not important ,if not , do a lot of research before you jump.

Hmmm, I drive a E350d coupe (‘64 plate), the 9G auto is surprisingly frugal, but equally lots of fun when opportunities present...
Blobcat is right though, Diesel engines are not the future!
Just wish I’d seen an E400 when I was looking!
Approx £18k for 30-40k miles euro6 old shape is my current take...
