Hi All,
Can anyone help, my 2003 E320cdi Avantgarde has a problem with the drivers door idicator not working from the direction stick, although it works normally when you lock the car from the key, The local MB dealer said that it is a broken wire and want to replace the whole unit at £400. A little expensive for a broken wire. Has any one else had this problem and can advise the fix.??

I think it must be a common problem as the N/S went whilst under MB warranty.

Had a similar problem on my 2001 E320 cdi Avantgarde last month when I got it back from the bodyshop for repairs. They told me it was a known design fault on the wires breaking and earthing when the mirrors fold and the newer ones had longer wires.. The flasher unit is LED and comes with the plastic casing, if it's this it aint £400.

Interestingly, I took my car away while they ordered the part for repair, folded the mirrors and they have been working ever since ??

2003 EClass 320cdi driver's door indicator fault

Thanks for the information, Looks like I may have to just pull the door cover off and do a continuity check on the wires, does anyone know what the colour coding is ?? and where the jack socket may be loated for the removal ??

Did not mention this before but I have had so many problems with this 2003 E320 CDI from new its been unbelievable several new turbo's, problems with jerky gear changes and many more not to mention the Ball joints, that the car failed it's first MOT with the age of 3 years and with only 50k miles on the clock. The local MOT station advised that the car was in a dangerous state at that time and shuold not be driven on the road, MB did fix that under warranty and redid the MAT free of charge. (A good dealer upto now)

Because of my pressure, MB gave me a 4th year warranty and I have carried this on, only to be advised that the warranty would not cover the Indicater failure although at the time of inspection pre Christmas they advised that the car also had leaking shock absorbers that would be covered.

Shock absorber failure's with just 63k miles on the clock sounds more like a cheap car!! failure, not a Mercedes.

Thanks for your info Daeth's, I intend to contact a Service Manager at my local MB dealership tomorrow 31st Dec to try and push this situation.

Will advise.

Well some success, MB extended warranty will NOT cover the broken wire or wing mirror assemble relacement, neither will Merceds Benz factory offer any support. ( Bad so far )

Dealer comes to the rescue, the MB dealer in Sheffield have agreed to cover the fix whilst completing other service work, Well done to this MB supplier.

Suggestion to anyone having this type of problem, (which should not happen in the lifetime of the car) (Especially a Merc), To keep badgering the system, eventually someone will listen.

This was not about the cost to repair, a low cost item, it is more about the quality of a Merc with an original cost of £42k.

However, well done and thanks to the MB dealer, and Daeth's words of encouragement
