Hi
Has anyone got advice on whether these are worth buying? I am looking at a 3 year old version which has just come to the end of it's MB warranty but have been reading horror stories of the 48 Volt Hybrid battery failures causing major problems. Rang MB and they tell me they don't give any warranty on PHEV or MHEV batteries after three years. The extended warranty does cover them at £463 per year. Is this failure a commom problem that anyone has come across. Thanks.

It’s too early to say how long MB 48V MHEV battery systems last and not sure about the replacement cost but it ain’t going to be cheap I suspect £3k

You're right I already have a Lexus ES300H. This MHEV Merc idea was to replace our CDI 220 diesel but have doubts now. Might go for a standard petrol E Class instead. Seems a safer idea.

Checked today and the battery is £1070.60p + a fitting cost. 110 have been fitted this year to cars across the UK dealer network according to the Merc dealer parts dept.

I have a 2021 GLC300 with 48v mild hybrid system and I do read the forums regularly but cannot recall too many posts about problems with this system but as has been said it is relatively new.

110 being sold throughout the U.K. does not strike me as a big problem considering how many cars have this system.

Time will tell I guess, fingers crossed for when warranty expires.

Put simply stuff should not break in 5 minutes if it’s fit for purpose. If designed right, they should be able to last decades !

Yep, +1 the 48V MHEV system should last 10+ years and be warranted for at least 7, come on MB you need to design something better and back it up too many not fit for purpose parts fitted nowadays

I have a CLS350 MHEV (model now discontinued) which I find an effortless car and I have had no problems. It has a twin turbo 4cyl petrol engine which is plenty powerful enough for my needs. It's a big car in a very dark grey so I was tempted to add a flagstaff and Union Jack on the front wing. The only evidence that it is MHEV is the effortless starting from the 48v starter motor. I have never seen the battery; it is buried in the boot floor under a bolt down cover. There was a recall to add some strengthening to the battery containment - presume it is a heavy beast.

Battery life? I can't comment but I have the car on a 48 month PCP and only have 6 months to go. Fingers crossed. Only problem now is what to replace it with?
