Your locking and unlocking is done by a vacuam pump, normally under the back seat, if the battery is flat it will not work.

What normally happens here is that one of the pipes comes off the lock, or the contact fails.

Malcolm, So to unlock drivers door with " manual key" still requires assistance from vacuum pump ?
I do know that opening car with the key will only open the drivers door.
So do I need to open up door panel check hose connections and what else??

Thanks for the help

Took panel off door, tried lock with key, can see small disc approx 20mm dia with a small finger on it rotating approx 180 deg, this is all it is doing, it is right beside arm with cable attached between it and internal door handle when handle is pulled cable stretches it pulls arm up opens door.
Looks to me as thought there should be something else on "disc" to unlock / lock door, very hard to see and did not want to strip out lock ( a little knowledge.... and all that).
Disc had a bit of play and when rotating moving in and out slightly.
Had a look at bottom of door to see if there where any bits lying there found nothing.
The plastic sheet was in place and did not appeared to have been removed in past, so I don't think anyone was in here before but hard to tell.
Does anybody have diagram of locking mechanism?
Any ideas?

I have a W210, and it has a Positive and Neg point under the bonnet that you may be able to jump via...

I am not an mechanic, but that's what I would try.

Please wait to see if others agree...
