E Class radio troubles

Whilst driving the family E class, the radio, which was tuned to radio 4 (Father!!), suddenly went dead. It comes up with CODE on the display. There's 2 problems:

1. the code is unknown; how can we get this?

2. when driving, radio switched off because it cannot be used, the small "Radio alarmed" LED flashes; it seems wrong as I understand from my own CLK, the LED only flashes upon park and car locked / alarmed.

How can I solve these problems and avoid them in the future?

Dealer can supply code if you have registration and VIN number. Most retailing dealers keep these records. I got a code last week for a 9 year old car.

Not sure why yours is going wrong but I have terrible trouble with long wave use, especially Radio 4!! Unfortunately MB were unable to fix it, was beyond their vast resources.

Sounds like the main power to the memory was interrupted that is why it is asking for the code same thing happens when your battery is flat and you try and start the car.
