Hi All,

I'm looking at changing my C200K estate for an E-class Estate as I need more seats...hence a 7 seater option of the E-class.
I've seen loads that I could possibly consider more seriously, but there is one that I've seen that rings my bells! Only snag, it doesn't have the extra third row of seats in the boot (rear-facing) along with the seat-belts.

Now I've been in touch with a company called 7Luxury and they've quoted me £1300 to supply and fit this extra row, in matching cream leather....and they'll come to my place to fit!

My questions;
Does anyone know of any other companies installing these any cheaper?
Also, does anyone know if I can just buy the parts direct from Mercs and fit the seat (easily) myself?

Ironic thing is, I rang Mercs today, and they couln't give me a price for the parts until after new year!!!

Not in a hurry to buy the rear seat, so any advice/help appreciated...

Kind regards,

Personally, I would keep searching for a car with them fitted from new. Seems a heck of a lot of money to me.

I was in a similar situation some time back. Having contacted a number of companies my own MB main dealer in Waterford [Tom Nurphy + 353 51 301222] came up with a better price using genuine MB parts. With the estate you have to be careful of the side airbags and seatbelts. As far as I recall the price was somewhat less than the £1300 you were quoted. If it interests you there is a ferry from Pembroke [Irish Ferries] or Fishguard [Stena] to Rosslare, an hour to the dealer. There is a Trevelodge up the road and a Clarion hotel next door to them.

I did not go ahead with the job but although the sensible thing would be to change the car the reality is that if you have a good car the risk of buying a bad one with some expensive problems and the associated cost is not worth it in my opinion. I have 132k on mine and it looks like I will have to do this now.

Look on Ebay 7 seat conversions come up frequently price between £200 and £400. I considered this as an option when looking for my car - luckily I found one with the 7 seat option.

If you have found the right car, I think that a second hand set is a relatively small price

Check with an Indi - however, I have never heard of a problem with the conversion - No manufacturer would ever develop a separate floor plan for a 7 seat car

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Threadjack - what power supply do powered seats require in a W210? Just a straight 12 volts?

I have possibly found a set of powered seats perfect for my car, complete with doorcards. I'm presuming the wiring will be present (at least up to the fusebox anyway) - theres no wiring to the seats but that isn't difficult to solve.

Let us know how you get on - I want to replace my seats with leather, and most are fully electric with controls on the door cards - I am interested how difficult the conversion would be
