I have comand in my e class and am thinking of retrofitting the MB rear TV screen into my car (Have little kid and am tired of plugging in them portable DVD players when we go on long drives). Any one know how much it will set me back to retrofit this or if it is worth the trouble? Anyone done it before?

Also thinking of disabling the 'video switch-off when moving' feature.

I do have the process for disabling the video/tv motion off.
I purchased it on that world famous auction site on the web.

I have not yet attempted it, as it is illegal to drive with the system on in the front. I have a pair of screen's fitted in the rear headrest's which are set up to a playstation 2. That is mounted in the boot it is operated using wireless controllers. I also have it linked to the TV tuner that receive's the signal for the tv on the comand satnav, the biggest problem is the kids whining to change the game or DVD not so convenient when on a motorway as you have to stop to do this because it's in the boot. Police may not take to kindly for stopping on a hard shoulder just for that.

Big £££ and illegal for the last bit, also makes no difference to resale but does attract thieves. However I would rather have them than the twin portable DVD setup I use, if I could get them for very little £

I have the PS2 under the rear armrest so that the games can be changed. Pioneer do a very nice 10 DVD multi changer :)

Didn't realise it was illegal, just thought it was not recommended. My cousin has had a rear screen for 2 years - had no problem with thieves (yet). He ordered his new with his car. I got mine 'pre-owned' (That sounds so much more Merc-Like than 2nd Hand or used ;-) ).

Yeah I know it will cost a bit, but I did get a good deal on the car and had a good Xmas so have a bit more money than sense at the mo'

My car is "pre-owned" the system was fitted as an option by MB, the person who bought the car new had all the options fitted on the car: keyless go, distronic, pulse seats ICE etc etc...(fantastic spec). It was a Everton footballer. Good tip; buy footballer's ex cars they usually have everything on them.

May not be important here, but the TV on the move can only be disabled on 2003> Command.
The anologue tuner is awful in the sense that it will only scan stored channels, so if you are on the move and enter the next transmitter zone you will not recieve anything without re tunning. As the channels go from 22 to 69 you have 48 channels to tune too, to find what you want

In the back is OK, it is the front which is illegal.
