E Class Steering (W210) - Noise when turning lock to lock

The steering makes a short 'rubbing' noise when turning the wheel from lock to lock (such as when performing a three point turn). Is this a major problem and how much is a main deadler likely to charge (against what a specialist would charge). The next service is due on 5000 miles. Is this something that could wait until then?
