E200 (210) 1998 Very bad flat spot when cold

Hello everybody, I have just registered so I hope I am doing this right. I own a E200 (210) automatic 2 litre petrol. When I start from cold and try and drive there is a total lack of power and I am lucky if I can get 20 mph out of her. As soon as she gets warm the problem goes away and she drives lovely. Has anyone any ideas! If you do then I would be very grateful.

Do you need to switch off and restart before it behaves properly?
The 20mph bit does sound like safe mode triggered by the MAS but that doesn't reset on its own so if it improves when warm without a restart, I suspect its something else.
Not certain what though, there are a number of contenders. Does she start up ok, or do you need to crank her over a fair bit first?

I had the same MAF problems about 3 months back, I CLEANED IT with 2 solvents and, touch-wood, so far so good!

I used STANDARD PANEL WIPE, the same stuff a bodyhsop would use to clean the wax and grease off a pannel before painting; Took the unit off and used a syringe to gently squirt into the reeds. I refitted the unit then I sprayed a good amount of WD40 into the unit with the engine running. ( it tries to cut off and splutters but you need the airflow while spraying. Turned off the engine, left it for about half an hour and when I started it up again, it was almost like new... but it took about a week of normal driving before it was perfect! That saved me the cost of a new MAF unit! Good luck.
