E200 ERRATIC TEMPERATURE GUAGE

THE TEMP GUAGE ACTS IN AVERY ERRATIC MANNER. IT SHOOTS TO THE TOP UNTIL YOU EASE OFF THE ACCELERATOR THEN IT WILL RETURN TO NORMAL FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE DOING IT AGAIN. I HAVE RENEWED THE TEMPERATURE SWITCH BUT TO NO AVAIL. HAS ANYONE ELSE ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM AND BEEN ABLE TO SOLVE IT. THE CAR IS NEW SHAPE N.REG.

Hi

Have you tested the fan viscous coupling, these tend to cause a problem on your age vehicle.

THANKS ANDY,
But I don't know how to check the fan coupling. I seem to think that it's an elecrical problem as the gauge has now got a mind of its own. It doesn't respond to the accelerator as it did before.

Hi Malcolm,

I have the same problem, seems like a cracked pcb or simmilar once warm it settles down and reads perfect, [I can adjust mine by tapping the instrument cluster,... I am not joking ] it is the gauge that is at fault £250 from dealer.
