Hi All,

I've been lurking around the site for ages, but now need some help....

My E200 124 16v 94reg has developed a few probs.....

1. Abs light came on and stayed on. Then remained off when started next day. A few days later came on and stays on.

2. Just noticed that the idle has deteriorated - typically if stoping at lights it drops to 500 rpm before popping up to 1500 before settling back to 800ish. It has also developed a tendency to stall in the few minutes after starting. However it always starts well at the first turn of the key and in a few seconds of trying.

3. When engine hits 4000rpm it is as if an rev limiter has cut in - feels like a steady missfire, with no power at all drop back below 4000 and it runs fine. Happens in all gears and load conditions.

Known problems - suspect a dodgy lamda sensor. Temp guage doen't work - but hasn't for ages.

So the diagnosis is??

Thanks in advance for any info/help

Your Mercedes
2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
The abs light would indicate that the over voltage relay could be dry soldered.
under the fault condition it will also upset engine running etc.
It is a very common fault If both these things happened at the same time,
tapping the relay when engine running would show the fault.

Thanks for the reply.

Is the OVP relay a likely candidate for the 4000rpm cutout as well?

Thanks

ABS light could be a sender fault. There are rwo connectors under the bonnet for the front, and a connector under the back seat.
If it's the back, it is in the diff and needs careful removal. Also costs a few bob.
Mine did, and I got a proper chap to do the fiddly bits.

Of what I have read the OVP on the way out has all the symptoms you describe - ABS light, eratic running, idling etc.
