A few times now after I have topped up with oil the management light comes on and the goes out after a few days. After its lasst service with a complete oil and filter change (genuine parts) the light has come on and stayed on with a slight surging of engine speed, Mass airflow code shows, replaced unit but no effect. Any ideas?

Most surging is down to an air leak in the inlet somewhere, do check all of the vacuum pipes

it's a 2003. The problem has been there for 9 months as I say twice after topping up oil, light came on but went out within a week, but not this time. Only had it 4 weeks when the timing chain slipped, luckily no damage, replaced chain and tensioner, seemingly there was an issue on this model but denied by mercedes. Again there was a link between oil and tensioner. Where are the vacume pipes to be looked at, what might the connection with oil be. I have checked for leakes on harness but nothing not a drop.

Thats a 271 engine I think Col.

Check under the air intake (air filter housing has to be removed) and you will find a split breather pipe causing your issues. About 7 quid from mb
