E200 underpowered?

Hi all

Just wanted to get your thoughts on whether the E200 is a little underpowered for the car or whether its actually OK?

Doing a bit of research and looking at slightly older E-classes and would appreciate some views. Would I better off with a 230/240 or just stick with the diesel??

My head is still telling me to go for a diesel...maybe E300d...

I think this boils down to personal preference, not much between the two. Except lifestyle.

the 240 is a lovely smooth V6 that is very quiet until you boot it and then it makes a lovely sporty V6 noise. It is, however, a little underpowered and a tad thirsty. I suspect the Diesel would be a better option if you are going for a high miler but personally I've done my time with diesels. I may go back to them at some point but for the moment I'm sticking with petrol

The E200 Kompressor ( W210 or W211 ) is ok, but the plain E200 is definitely underpowered for the weight of the car. Acceleration from standstill is ponderous, but ok once you get up to highway cruising speed.

The E200 is perfectly fine, and more economical that the V6s.

Tried both, the difference wasn't worth the extra dough. But, now given
a choice I'd go for the E220cdi, economy is better again, and the torque is not far off the V6. They hadn't be available long when I bought the E200, too pricey. Big engines seem like fun, until you need to fill the car.
