ok lads need help here just got my car back from the garage becasue there is a knocking noise from the front when driving over small pot holes and cobble lock, i've had the shocks, ball joints, drop links, roll bar bushing, oh and the top control arms replaced and still have the knocking and they cant find whats cause it so i've been looking up the treads and found a few that talk about the steering rack teeth wearing. just woundering how i would go about checking if the teeth are worn on the rack.

Thanks lads

Check the bonnet is adjusted on the little stops.

I had a similar problem with an E class once and managed to pinpoint it to the bonnet mis-adjusted.

The rack is a possible but unlikely.

i'd check the track rods and ends before worrying about the rack.

Well, I had the same problem and it was also the shocks, bought from a local repair shop. Since then I always fit original MB parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
