Hi, hope you can help or advise.

I have a W213, this came with with amg rims and tyres 235/40/18.

when I go over speed bumps, even very slowly, the bottom of the car gets scraped. What can I do to stop this from happening?

Can i fit taller tyres & will this help? if so what size tyres should I fit, with ride comfort in mind and no scraping of the bottom of car.

Thanks
Kind regards

Standard tyre and wheel sizes as listed in the handbook and the back of the fuel filler cap will restore ride hight as intended. 2 things to trip you up come to mind, 1, has the stock suspension also been lowered? 2, if you have Airmatic and the system is leaking a little that can make the difference too. (I lost 2 rear under trays in the first year just going into my garage, so I understand you pain)

We have the same problem on both of our cars. The SLC250d on 17" wheels, & the E350CDI on 18" wheels.
Changing wheel size makes no difference as the radius is the same.
The only answer is to drive over part of the speed bump, which raises the height of the car.

yes filler cap shows
245/45/18 for front and
275/40/18 for back.

will these tyres give me more height?

Not sure if the suspension has been lowered or not, only had the car for 8 months, seller did not say it was lowered.

How can I find out if this is Airmatic?

No. Check all your under trays are fixed and not hanging. I've owned an e350 coupe with 235 35 19 and it never bottomed out in 3 years of ownership. Try going over with the wheels at an angle , rather than straight.

Under trays checked, one on driver side is broken but not hanging off.

Without doing the maths then possibly. The winter tyres supplied when i bought the car were only one size out and I was hitting everything in sight, the handling was also very dodgy at anything over 100MPH on the Autobahn as soon as you saw a bend in the road. I learnt early on Mercedes spent a lot of time getting the set ups right and nobbing around with non standard sizes is probably an unwise thing to do with a 2 tonne car that can cruise at 3 figure speeds all day.
Regarding airmatic, if you cant hear it inflating after you switch on then you probably do not have it. This then leads to 2 other thoughts, tyre pressure and how much crap do you carry in the boot? Airmatic will adjust to the load, normal springs can be compressed.

just found out my car originally had 17" light alloy, not sure what 'light' means. This was from the spec based on the VIN.

I now have18" inch alloys. 235/40r18 tyres.

The spec on the fuel cover shows

Car spec says fuel flap

205/65 r16
225/55 r17

or
** Not sure why these are repeated, anyone any ideas?
205/65 r16
225/55 r17

or
245/45 r18
275/40 r18

or

245/40 r19
275/35 r19
245/35 r20
275/30 r20

based on the above, I am guessing that the tallest tyres are
205/65 r16
225/55 r17

but my rims are too big as I have 18's.

Changing my tyres to
245/45 r18
275/40 r18

from
235/40r18 will not make much difference in the height of the tyres?

You should have 245 45 18 by rights . That's what supposed to be on. Gives you 1.3 inches

Are the rears also 235 40 18. On now ?

You have a German car, these are all the sizes Mercedes have tested and confirmed enable the original design specs for the vehicle systems e.g. ride height, cornering stability, speedometer accuracy, bodywork clearance etc. They should be repeated on your cars certificate of conformity and are also repeated on the vehicle log book over here in Germany. Step outside of these sizes at your peril, or in our case, at the peril of our undertrays :p

You might be able to , I'd think the rear rims would need to wider than the front also . Possibly 8.5 j front , 9.5j rear. You need to do some homework beforehand

Sizes are embossed/ stamped into the rears of each rim.
