Is there not a lever inside the headlamp to cut off the upsweep to the left of the RHD lamp? Or depending on the type of lamp .... my 14 plate ML with its ILS lights can be switched via the dash cluster

If you have the Mercedes intelligent light system its fairly easy to change on the dashboard controls, if you don't have intelligent light system then I would just fit headlight deflectors to you headlights.

RTFM or get new headlamps.
Apologies if I offended anyone. The information will be in the users manual - there is always a section for adjusting the headlamps for driving abroad.
If you intend on keeping the car in Portugal you may want to replace the headlamps for the long term as this "may" help you getting through the MOT equivalent.

I will try to find if there is a lever inside the headlights near the main lamp
I can’t see Mercedes making 2 kind of headlights one for Uk and other for EU
Many thanks all the info is great appreciated

Can’t fit deflectors if moving over there for extended period of time as won’t pass local tests

Oh yes they would. The UK is not the only country in the world to drive on the left. All the lever adjustment does is to make the asymmetric headlamps symmetrical by taking the top corner of the right hand side of the beam, it doesn’t make them dip the other way, For that, you need specific left hand drive (right hand traffic)) headlamps.

They can put steering wheels on the other side, entire dash boards, entire displays, car mats being different, wiper blades to name a few

Hell yes they can and do and so does pretty much every car manufacturer.
