E220 cdi blue efficiency om651 engine

I broke down on the motorway saw white smoke coming from the exhaust. Engine cut out and would not restart. I took it to local MB independent and they said that the engine will manually turn but has a very tight spot.
They seem to think it may have seized....They dont seem keen on investigating the problem and have said that a replacement engine would be for the best The vehicle has done 160k ...replacement engines looks like a minefield online....can anyone give me some advice .

If the engine is hard to turn, then I would tend to agree, you won't recover the cost in labour to diagnose and repair the fault.

If you are replacing the engine, find one with the same 6 digits EG OM651.XXX
