Hi
My e220 cdi (w210) recently started pulling left and I cant seem to cure it.
There is also a slight wobble on the nearside wheel, more noticeable at higher speeds. Can someone please help as it is driving me round the bend.
I have replaced both front tyres, ball joints, anti roll bar links, shock absorbers, wheel bearing and even had the four wheel optiflex wheel alignment done, to no avail.
Can a faulty steering rack cause this problem?
if not what else could it be?
many thanks

Sounds like you've bent a wheel or hub. If you jack up the car and spin the offending wheel, does it wobble? If it does, take off the wheel and spin the disc to se if it wobbles. If the disc does, does the hub face wobble? Obviously the wobble (if any) is easier to see on something of greater diameter

If there's no wobble (actually "run out") then it's suspension-related. If there is run out on the wheel or hub then something's bent. If the wobble is only under braking it's a warped disc. If the wobble is always there and gets worse under braking it's probably suspension

It sounds like you're taking it to the wrong people. This kind of thing should be diagnosed not by part swopping but by experience and close observation

Thankyou Nick, will take it somewhere else and mention what you have advised.
Hopefully get to the heart of the problem.
many thanks

Move the wheel, or put the spare on. If the problem persists (or moves to the corner the wheel is on) then you know whats what :)

It's worth having the rear bushes checked out too. I had a car which steered left because a rear bush on the left rear wheel had perished, allowing the wheel to move forward slightly under normal driving (worse under acceleration) thus making the car turn left. On the over-run it used to have the opposite effect and the car would turn right.
