e220 cdi Vibrating fan belt

hi newbie here, i think the power steering pump might be on the way out. The fan belt is jumping mad and i can feel a knocking on the steering wheel. i changed the belt and the knocking quitened but its bak again now after a week and when you look hard it sounds like the belt is slippng!! Any ideas for me..

Did you spin the other components when the belt was off, like the alternator or the Idler that is the biggest cause of you problem.

another thing to look out for is most diesel alternators are fitted with a clutch on the pulley and these are prone to seizing. remove the belt and try to lock the internal shaft of the alternator and twist the pulley. there should be movement in only one direction.
